Dr. Arthur Canales

Arthur Canales, Ph.D. Arthur D. Canales ("Art"), Holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Florida International University (Miami, FL, 1987); a Master of Arts in Russian & Soviet Studies from the University of Miami (Coral Gables, FL, 1990); a Master of Divinity from The Catholic University of America (Washington, DC, 1993), a Master of Arts in Liturgical Studies from the University of Notre Dame (South Bend, IN, 1995); a Doctor of Ministry from The Catholic University of America (Washington, DC, 1996). He has served as a parish youth minister for ten years in Florida, Washington, DC, and Maryland; he has served as a college campus minister at the University of Miami for three years; he has served as an Assistant and Associate Professor of Theology & Ministry for six years at Silver Lake College of the Holy Family (Manitowoc, Wisconsin). He is the recipient of the Who's Who Among America's Teachers Award for distinguished teaching for the academic years 2003-2004; 2004-2005; and 2005-2006. He is recipient of the 2005 Servant-Leadership Award. He has contributed articles to both pastoral and academic journals: Pastoral Music (1996), Ministry (2000), Living Light (2002), The Journal of Pentecostal Theology (2003), The Journal of the Franciscan Association of Colleges and Universities (2004), Catechumenate: A Journal for Christian Initiation (2005), Apuntes: Reflexiones Teologicas desde el Contexto Hispano-Latino [Notes: Theological Reflections from the Hispanic/Latino Context] (2005), Journal of Religious Education (2006), New Theology Review (2007), and Journal of Youth Ministry (forthcoming 2008). He has contributes over thirty-five theological-exploratory essays to the "Beliefs" Column in the Herald Times Reporter (Manitowoc, Wisconsin). He periodically reviews books for Religious Studies Review, New Theology Review, and Theological Studies. He is author of Models for Youth Ministry: A Catholic and Ecumenical Understanding of Adolescent Ministry that Works! (New York, NY: Paulist Press; forthcoming fall 2007). His areas of concentration and research include: Christian discipleship, youth ministry, Christology, liturgical & sacramental theology, and servant-leadership. Dr. Canales is married to Josephine Maire (Vermillion) Canales and they have two young children: Alexander Stephen and Anna Catherine. Currently they reside in north Austin, Texas.
